Actor-director Farhan Akhtar is elated with the cast and composers of "Rock On" making it to the cover of popular music magazine Rolling Stone. The September issue of the magazine features Farhan, Arjun Rampal, Luke Kenny, Purab Kohli and composer trio Shankar-Ehasaan-Loy on the cover - all looking dapper in black."Doing a film where I play a rock musician is a dream come true. But being on the cover of Rolling Stone? Man, that's beyond a dream," Farhan remarked."As a teenager I used to dream of being in Rolling Stone. Now it's come true. I'm quite kicked about it. We're featured because we've made the first film based on rock music from this country. Also, let's not forget Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy are full-on musicians even if me and the rest of the cast are not," Farhan told IANS."But yes, the only Indian musician who featured before us on the Rolling Stone cover was A.R. Rahman. So I can't pretend I'm not kicked," he added.Farhan and the crew showed the film to close family and friends on Wednesday night and he was very happy with their reactions."The response was very encouraging. I'm feeling more confident about the film.""Rock On" has got good reviews, and regardless of how it fares, it has set Farhan's acting career rolling. But he stresses that directing would still be a priority."I won't be seeking out roles or creating characters for myself so I could act. But after seeing 'Rock On', filmmakers would know my range and will offer me what's suitable. I'm not going out looking for roles. After 'Rock On', I've my sister's film 'Luck By Chance' as an actor. There's also the unreleased film 'Fakir' where I'm cast with the very talented Mr. Anu Kapoor."At the moment I've two films to direct - 'Voice From The Sky' and the sequel to 'Don'. Only then will I think of another acting assignment," said Farhan, who has made hits like "Dil Chahta Hai" and "Lakshya".Any plans of a sequel to "Rock On"?"That would depend entirely on the director Abhishek Kapoor and the kind of script he'd find again. If the plot is exciting, why not a sequel? For now we're all completely satisfied with 'Rock On'. Whatever I thought we'd be able to achieve, we've done it. There's no sense of disappointment or incompleteness, regardless of which way the box-office goes," the actor-director said.Indo-Asian News Service

The IDEA cup 2008
Jamie Alter in Colombo
August 25, 2008
All the top order really had to do was to see off India's four key men and attack the fifth, but by the time Yuvraj Singh came on to bowl his part-time spin, Sri Lanka were already deep in the mire © AFP
If Sri Lanka are to turn this series around and add to their Test triumph, their much-vaunted batting line-up has to come out of its current trough. On Sunday, for the second game running, India's medium-pace trio of Zaheer Khan, Praveen Kumar and Munaf Patel left the batsmen searching for answers. The script read much the same as in Dambulla, the only difference being that Sri Lanka were chasing under lights.

How to increase traffic to your blog
Just search in Google for increase traffic to your blog, Social Networking, Social Media, and any such term and you will be inundated with so many blogs and websites purporting to teach you how to get on the front page of Digg, Twitter so that millions visit your blog, and have StumbleUpon as your personal “make my blog popular” assistant, all of whom will drive tons of traffic to your blog. There is so much emphasis these days on using Social Networking and Social Media to bring home the traffic that we have entire blogs devoted to teaching us how to utilize the power of Social Media and Social Networking filled with “How To” titles for every conceivable option to harness the power of Social Media and Social Networking for our personal benefit.
First and foremost, how true is this? I have dabbled in Social Networking myself and you can read about it here, but it is not easy to build traffic from Social Networking and that too overnight as many blogs out there promise. Secondly, what is the purpose of increased traffic? Are you looking to monetize your blog and if so how much will the increase in traffic from Social Networks really increase your income? If you are looking for increased traffic for people to read your blog and to benefit from it, then increased traffic from Social Networking is great, but if you are looking for monetary benefit from the increased traffic then how much of the increased traffic really converts to increase in income? Just think about it! Does increased traffic always mean increased income? I am sure all of us have had increased hits and yet no increase in subscriptions or CTRs and many other such instances. The target then should be to increase monetization either from increased traffic or even from the existing traffic than just to increase traffic without any benefits in terms of monetization. Of course if you are looking at increased traffic just so that people will read your blog and benefit from it then great, but honestly how many of us are really looking for something like that and would be satisfied with just that?
I came across an interesting article (whose title I have borrowed) at http://www.makepeacetotalpackage.com/ where Patrick Coffey has written from his personal experiences on the same subject. It will be worth your while if you can visit the blog and read the entire article; it will be an eye opener to many I am sure.
